Birthday Cupcakes, La Hogue Farm Cafe and other treats!
This weekend was my birthday, well Saturday was but I made a weekend of it, I think that is the rule if your birthday is on a Saturday.
There was a LOT of cake.
First of all hubby really out did himself and made these fabulous chocolate cupcakes from the Hummingbird Bakery book, he added his own twist of a raspberry filling and a chocolate cream cheese icing. They are seriously good, so chocolatey! There is ONE left and it is all mine....
We went for a lovely lunch a the Old Fire Engine house in Ely on Saturday, I didn't grab any pictures (except for the bread basket which isn't that interesting!) but it was a really quirky place to go for lunch, the puddings are great!
Due to the wonder that is Twitter the lovely La Hogue farm shop offered me free tea and cake on account of it being my birthday, yay! So we stopped off there for some shopping in the farm shop and then for a slice of (more) cake in the farm shop cafe and a cup of tea (look at the cute milk jug!). The new farm shop cafe is lovely, with proper tables for lunch and cosy sofas for a relaxing cuppa. We are going to stop by for lunch some day. The cakes are beautiful too, the ginger cake we had was very fresh and obviously homemade. Yum!
I also received a lot of foodie presents, including a very large box of marshmallows from Sweet Treats Bakery.
There is stilll MORE cake to come, I have bought some in today to give to my colleagues, for the odd tradition of bring in cakes when it is your birthday. I will be blogging those later on this week.

Birthday!
Yesterday was my birthday and true to myself I celebrated it with yummy food, including lots of cakey goodness.
We had a wander around Spitalfields market, lunch at Leon (a slightly healthy option to prepare us for later on), snooping in pretty shops and then a gorgeous afternoon tea at the much raved about Bea's of Bloomsbury.
Our tea was presented on a gorgeous little bunny cake stand - two little cupcakes, mini valhrona brownies, blondies, mini meringues and two massive scones. And jam, clotted cream and proper tea in a pot. Yum!

The cafe is very small and booked up even for a weekday, I'm glad we booked, the front counter is laid out with lots of gorgeous treats - cupcakes, meringues, cakes, tarts, marshmallows and cookies. The service left a little to be desired but they made up for it with the food.
I would recommend you to go!
We also stopped by Montezuma's chocolate shop (for chili chocolate truffles, lavender cream chocolates and coconut milk choc!) and Laduree (for macarons) - definitely a sugary kind of day.
To inspire me for the future I received the Hummingbird Bakery cookbook, lots of cupcakes and other sweet treats! I also got this beautiful cushion from Inkling Prints - the printing is gorgeous.

My Birthday!
Yesterday was my 24th birthday and I had a lovely day.
First of all, an Etsy thing...
I managed to get my first Treasury on Etsy yesterday and it features Etsians who share my birthday!
Birthday Treasury
Including this gorgeous butterfly from Ikonic Vintage
I also had a lovely day spent having lunch at the Great House in Lavenham, very nice 3 courses, absolutely stuffed afterwards. The village and the surrounding countryside was also beautiful, and it looked even better because it was such a sunny day! I wish I had taken some pictures now. I did find a picture of their Creme Brulee, which I had!

I have also discovered a really great tea related gadget, which means I shall be drinking much more loose leaf tea in the future. I am very happy about this find:

You tilt it on its side and pour the tea through the strainer part, and the little metal tray catches the drips when you put it down!
Genius! We bought at at Cafe Clare, in Clare, Suffolk - a very nice little cafe with what looked to be gorgeous cakes - we could't manage another bite though so had to miss tasting them this time!
Finally - happy birthday to all the lovely Etsians in my Treasury!
